Meanings of Birth

                   Meanings of Birth

If we ask what birth is, each one will give his own explanation about it in different ways. Some will say that their birth is meaningless. In this context, we should consider our birth as a gift worthy of praise. This is expressed by the Poetess Avoiyar. She says that it is a great blessing to be born as a man and also to be born without lame, blindness or deafness. Our Tamil Literatures also say it is a great gift to be born as a man. Our culture, way of life, violence around us and threats of revolutions are giving us a new birth. They give different meanings regarding lives. Many meanings are given to the birth of Christ in this world. God became man, as a child and as a poor.

                         God became man

The world is undergoing a life without peace because of the thoughts and the evil deeds of man. Jesus came into this world as a sign of love and sacrifice to give man a peaceful life. The words of John 1:1 says the Word became man and dwelt among us. This was fulfilled by the birth of Christ. These revelations tell us one and the same thing for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life John 3:16. God redeemed us from destruction, gave his image to us and gave us a new image of life. This is emphasized by Paul also in the following words Titu 3:4. The kindness and the love of God of Savior appeared. He became man that we may live in harmony and unity with our neighbors. Let us love one another.

          God came as an Infant

When the Angels proclaimed the birth of Christ (Luke 2:12) they said this will be a sign to you, you will find a baby wrapped in clothes and lying in a manger.
Son of God came to this world as an infant because the innocent face of a child attracts our attentions. Jesus was born in this world as an infirm child yet he brought salvation to the world. Paul says thus (1 Corin 1:25) the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.

                  God came as a poor

God came to this world as a poor, humbled himself to console those suffering in pain by the inhuman enmity of man.
The glorious message of God is that we should be poor in our hearts and accept him in our lives. Hence the following words of the Bible say that God came to this world in the form of a poor. The Lord of Heaven and Earth was born in a stable. Though he was rich yet for your sake he became poor so that you through his poverty might become rich (2 Corin 8:9).
Hence God wants every one of us to be poor in our hearts and welcome him. Blessed are those who are poor (Luke 6:20) he said. God came to this world as a poor so also we must not discard the poor but accept them as brothers in our life.

                          Conclusion

God became man to redeem us. When are we going to become men, God came as a smiling child, when are we going to be like children.
In this New Year let us think and decide our lives.
New Year Greetings to you all that you may find the meaning in the birth of Christ.
